Caboonbah Homestead
"Caboonbah" Homestead is near Somerset Dam, overlooking a beautiful stretch of the Brisbane River, just below where it joins the Stanley River. It is built on a lofty headland and has magnificent views of the river both upstream and downstream.
"Caboonbah" is named after the aboriginal word for 'big rock'. Here in 1890 a Swiss carpenter built a house for Henry Somerset, a well educated Englishman, who married a daughter of the pioneering McConnel family from Cressbrook Station. |

Denbigh Farm

Carbethon Folk Museum & Pioneer Village
"Carbethon homestead was opened as a folk museum in 1979. Since then, many other structures and artifacts have been added, including the slab hut (left). Run by volunteers from the Crows Nest Historical Society, the centre is open Thursday and Sunday afternoons, 1pm to 5pm, and public holidays, 10am to 5pm.
