What is the Local Tourist?
We are a Brisbane based company that offers commercial and voluntary organisations the opportunity to promote their goods, services and events online.

Who is behind thelocaltourist.com.au?
The company was started by Terry Madigan and Rob Singh who recognised the need for local people to have all their leisure options at their fingertips, and for local businesses and organisations to have a cost-effective, reliable and targeted promotional platform. There are more details in the About Us section.

Do you list sites for free?
In the past we have accepted submissions for free listings from non-profit organisations. Unfortunately this "honor" system was abused and we have had to withdraw it. In any event we believe that $80 for a 12 month basic listing is rather a nominal amount, even for small organisations. It is a modest contribution to the quite substantial costs incurred in promoting our listings so they bring business to your doostep .. or modem .. or telephone.
Beyond our basic listing, sites that are willing and able to pay a little more receive listing preference according to our priority rating.
Once your site is listed, using our intuitive classification system, potential clients can quickly and easily locate the type of services or events they seek. Yours!
If you have an internet presence your link will be included.

Why should I pay to list with you?
That, naturally, is a commercial decision for you to make. However, consider the following:

  • We actively attract "local" browsers i.e. people who want to visit, buy, shop, holiday, drive, play etc. within driving distance
  • Browsers come to our site either as return visitors or the major search engines, actively looking for your goods or services
  • The breadth and depth of our site is such that many browsers are bookmarking us or making us their home page.
  • A Basic listing with us costs only $50 for 6 months, or $80 for a full year (+ GST).
  • We're a decent bunch of people - fair, reasonable, easy to talk to. Note, I don't claim we're handsome or beautiful, except to our mothers.

Interested? Take a look at our Site Submission page for more details.

How does it work?
Read the relevant information and complete the submission form on our site submission page.

What makes you different from other event sites?
We are different in a number of ways.

  • We are interested in every organisation, business or service that would be of interest to people in our communities in their leisure time. It doesn't matter whether it's large or small, provided it is within commuting distance of our "local" area i.e. South East Queensland.
  • We offer you the chance to submit directly yourselves rather than depend on us to find out about you and offer our own brief interpretation of your nature.
  • We offer the potential for detailed information on 14 broad leisure concepts, and over 140 recreational classifications so users can keep in touch with their particular interests.

For more information about us and our business see the About Us area.

Do I need a lot of computer experience to submit my information?
No. You'll find this very simple. Click here to see how quick and painless it is.

How do I pay?
Our preferred payment method is using BSB funds transfer, which is secure and transparent. You disclose none of your personal details and no credit cards are involved. However we send you a list of Payment Options when you purchase or subscribe to one of our services..
