A Balance of Free vs Paid
Listings
We provide free listings for non-profit organizations, and very
modest rates for our commercial listings. Why? Because
we want lots of "locals" to visit our site and find
plenty of choice. AND we want lots of local organizations
and enterprises to list with us.
We realise that many small business do not have a large advertising
budget. Naturally they want to maximise returns. Listing with
us meets those objectives. (See our Site
Submissions page.)
We realise that many non-profit organizations are run by voluntary
help. They attempt to provide a useful service and attract new
members, often with very limited resources. We're happy to provide
a venue for them to communicate.
However we also provide value-added options to clients in the
form of Advertising on our site, or
Priority Listing.
Who's behind the thelocaltourist.com.au?
Locals, naturally. Let's introduce ourselves:
Terry
Madigan
The Ideas Man.
Terry has a history of developing exciting initiatives in many
areas, the most recent being Streaming Video.
(Streaming Video refers to the viewing of visual content via the
internet. What's special about Terry's approach is that he's developed
techniques that maximize the quality while minimizing the download
time. In the near future we'll make a flash presentation available
via our links to demonstrate it's power and potential.)
Terry, judging that his frustrations at finding a good resource
for truly local leisure options was not unique, evolved the concepts
and philosophy behind the thelocaltourist.com.au.
Rob Singh
The Practical Man
Rob is a successful businessman based at the Brisbane Markets,
Rocklea. However as his roots are in Murwillumbah Rob is very
much a Man of the South East. (Probably a Man of the World too.)
Rob saw the merits of creating a web site firmly focused on the
typical leisure needs of people like you and me. His support has
been instrumental in our success - through the long process of
developing a substantial database, designing the web site, and
evolving and refining our philosophy.
His business acumen told him that getting it right, and having
a site of substance, was much wiser in the long run than putting
up yet another site with a sprinkle of links, then hoping for
the customers to come.
Darcy Moore
Webmaster and Wordsmith
Darcy provided a sounding board for ideas. With expertise in databases
and web design, and a keen nose for reality, he's taken the Project
from the drawing boards and fleshed out the vision.
You'll find we're an amenable group of people. You see we probably
live a few doors down from you.
